Tehran, (IRNA) - Visiting Belarus' Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov here on Saturday submitted Belarussian president's invitation to his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to visit Belarus in the near future.

Speaking at a meeting with Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs Manouchehr Mottaki, Martynov, while delivering an official invitation for President Ahmadinejad to visit Belarus, referred to expanded and good relations between the two countries.

According to the Public Relation Department of the Foreign Ministry, Martynov underlined the need to expand ties between the two sides given their political officials' willingness and abundant potentials.

Pointing to holding football matches in Tehran, he added that Belarus supports the expansion of relations in other fields including cultural, art and sport sectors.

For his part, Mottaki referred to Belarus' status in research and technological fields, adding that Iran and Belarus are able to expand mutual relations in scientific and technological sectors in addition to building new capacities.

"The two countries have common views on international issues," he said, adding, "We engage in cooperation within international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement."

Parliamentary cooperation, meetings between friendship groups of the two countries in the near future as well as the invitation extended to Belarussian speaker to visit Iran are among other efforts to facilitate mutual relations, he noted.

Touching on the common stance of the two countries on regional issues, he said that Iran has always tried to seek solution to Iraq's problems, therefore, there is no problem induced by Iranians against the Iraqi people.

"We have supported Iraq in development, security and formation of a popular government during the last four years and have been at the forefront in this respect," he added.
